We all get spam emails. Luckily my mail client, Mail App for OS X, does a pretty good job of filtering out the bulk of messages that are spam and sending them into a spam folder. This means I can simply delete them all with one click. The filtering system works by scanning for words in the headers and text of the email. Recently however over the last few months a group of emails has managed to avoid the filtering software. The spammer has managed to do this by embedding the text of the message as a graphic. What all these spam messages have in common is the offer of investing in shares in companies promising to make you a small fortune if you do so now. It would appear that this scam and others do actually work. John Naughton in his regular Observer column has a very interesting piece today that shows the adage “a fool and his money are easily parted”
